Writing: I write engaging, concise and well-researched articles on a range of topics. My style is polished and accessible, of the kind found in a magazine such as The Economist or a newspaper like The Globe and Mail. I also write articles about complex topics – cardiac care initiatives, for example – to be read by professionals and policy makers. My services include writing newsworthy press releases, persuasive op-ed pieces and crisp letters to the editor.

Editing: I work with clients to rewrite and/or edit reports, articles, proposals, dissertations and many other kinds of documents. It doesn’t matter whether the writing needs to be “tweaked” or the whole thing is a mess. I can fix it.

Consulting: As a media trainer, I work with clients who would like to be comfortable being interviewed by journalists. Using a workshop approach, I demystify the journalist’s purpose and lead participants through mock interviews, using the client’s own topics for practice. My clients include university professors, doctors, lawyers and other professionals. I also have extensive experience as a writing coach for reporters and editors, as well as for personal clients, both individually and in groups.

Public Speaking: I am an experienced public speaker, delivering presentations to general audiences on a variety of journalism and related topics; the most popular covers writing and editing essentials for non-fiction writers. I am also available to be interviewed about my PhD research area, which is the career experiences of women print journalists. My book on the topic is called Outsiders Still: Why Women Journalists Love - and Leave - Their Newspaper Careers, published by University of Toronto Press.
